Institute of Technology - Baghdad

The Institute of Technology in Baghdad is considered one of the oldest formations of the Middle Technical University. Founded in 1969 as part of the Technical Institutes Foundation, it was established in the location that was previously known as Al-Hikma University. Al-Hikma University itself was founded in 1957, where its cornerstone was laid at that time.

In 1968, the government began the process of winding down Al-Hikma University and converting it into government universities. Specifically, the building of the College of Civil Engineering at Al-Hikma University is now allocated for the Electrical Technologies Department of the Institute of Technology - Baghdad. The building of the College of Commerce (Management and Economics) is currently designated for the Power Mechanical Technologies Department. Moreover, the central library building of Al-Hikma University is now utilized for the Information Technology Unit. The former presidential building of Al-Hikma University is currently used by the Student Affairs Department.

History of the Institute

The Institute of Technology in Baghdad was previously known as the Institute of High Industrial Engineering between 1950-1951 and the Survey Institute between 1958-1959. Before that, it was also recognized as the Institute of Applied Engineering. As of now, the Institute of Technology in Baghdad comprises approximately 10 departments in various technological specialties.

The institute has consistently aimed to be the number-one choice in Iraq for students seeking knowledge and skills in technological fields, leading in education, excellence, and innovation. It strives to benefit from advanced technologies to contribute to Iraq's construction and reconstruction efforts.

The institute focuses on providing students with high and advanced technical knowledge and skills necessary for entering the workforce. It aims to enhance partnerships with various community sectors and aims to graduate a mid-level technical-training cadre of teachers that serve as a link between engineers and workers, possessing practical expertise in engineering technologies.
